Stopping Smoking is Easy!
If you are a smoker then you are probably either really intrigued by that statement or have dismissed it entirely. If you want to stop smoking it is really easy to do – you just have to believe that you can!
It’s all about the belief that you can stop smoking…
You form beliefs about lots of things in your life. Beliefs are really useful, they are the shortcuts to running your everyday life.
A strong belief in something means that you don’t have to keep thinking about whatever it is that you want to do.
For instance you have a strong belief than when you approach a door, you know how to open it. You don’t have to think about that door as if it was the first time you had encountered one. Your unconscious mind has learnt that what you are seeing is a door and that there is an easy way to bypass that obstacle.
Beliefs automate your life…
Take the example of driving a car. You have a very strong belief that you know how to drive, you don’t think about whether you can or not – you just know and believe that you can. This is why learning to drive can be challenging at first, simply because you haven’t built up the belief that you can!
Beliefs about smoking work in reverse…
Take your smoking habit – because that is what it is – just a habit you have learned to do unconsciously. Over the many years you have smoked cigarettes you have built up a strong belief that you are a smoker. And your unconscious mind has taken those beliefs and made it your reality.
Keep going until you enjoy it…
Just like learning to drive was hard, you probably didn’t like the first few cigarettes you smoked. You persevered though, convincing yourself it was cool, grown up or for some other arbitrary reason. Eventually though you got used to smoking and even convinced yourself you enjoyed it.
You have decided that for good reasons you want to stop smoking, maybe for the cost, or your health, or for your children’s sake.
Whatever the reason you now want to stop – but you can’t!
Now you are convinced you are a smoker and…
No matter what you try, you just keep falling back into being a smoker. Even if you do stop, you always “fall off the wagon”.
That belief that you are smoker just keeps kicking in.
And the more you try and fail the more convinced you are that you can’t stop smoking.
A new belief forms…
Your unconscious mind has now built a strong belief that it is hard to stop smoking, that quitting smoking is a really hard thing to do.
Just look at all the adverts for patches and gums, all convincing you that stopping smoking is hard to do, and you need their help to quit. Simply reinforcing that new belief.
Your unconscious mind holds the key…
All the way through I have been referring to your unconscious mind, it is far more powerful than your conscious mind – it will always win if there is a battle – if will power is required.
Your powerful unconscious mind has learnt well over the years and it thinks it is doing the right thing in helping you to smoke.
It believes that smoking is good for you in some perverse way.
And you just won’t win that battle no matter how hard you try!
So what is the answer…
You have to change the beliefs driving the smoking habit.
Educate your mind.
Update it’s information.
Smoking is bad for you and is slowly but surely killing you, and maybe even those around you – passive smoking is a killer too!
