More Anxiety clients
As a hypnotherapist I see clients for all sorts of issues. Anxiety definitely is the number one issue that I deal with. Anxiety presents itself in many ways, the most obvious being social anxiety, followed by general anxiety and OCD.
How anxiety affects you
As I mentioned anxiety comes in all shapes and sizes. And affects all kinds of people, even the most outwardly confident people can suffer inside. Just because they put on a brave face it doesn’t mean that they are not feeling anxious behind that facade.
Anxiety is a feeling that something is going to go wrong, or a fear that something may happen to you. This fear can be the basis for the start of OCD – obsessive compulsive disorder. OCD sufferers often feel that if they don’t carry out a ritual such as constantly checking things then something they have feared will happen will become a reality.
We all have a small amount of OCD, like checking doors or windows are locked – when we know that we have already done it – but just going back to check gives us peace of mind. It gets out of control when you have check 20 or 30 times!
This occurs when your self esteem is low and you don’t feel confident about meeting people. You feel that you may show yourself up or even be exposed as a fraud – Imposter Syndrome. Very often the fear of blushing is enough to to trigger these feelings. Avoidance is very often the technique used to counter this anxiety. Not going out or meeting people is common place, as is the occurrence of panic attacks.
Generalised anxiety disorder
When anxiety spreads into all areas of your life it is known as generalised anxiety disorder. The sufferer tends to feel anxious all the time. Even waking up in the morning and feeling anxious about the day ahead. These feelings carry on throughout the day, and again avoidance and panic attacks can be ways of dealing with GAD.
Dealing with your anxious feelings
Hypnosis is a very effective way to deal with all types of anxiety. Very often once the reason for the anxious feelings have been discovered and dealt with it is a simple case of rebuilding your self esteem. Helping you to see life in a more positive way. Usually only four or five sessions are required to see a remarkable change.
