What is Regression Therapy?
There are many different ways to resolve problems using hypnotherapy, and one of those is by using hypnosis to regress a client to the cause of an issue. Once that cause has been uncovered then it can be easily dealt with, often with quite quick and impressive results.
The main aim of this regression is to go straight to the cause of the issue, it is not to relive every event associated with the problem, it is a quick therapy and often just one regression is enough, however sometimes there are other memories that clients feel they need to deal with and another session may be required.
Is Regression Therapy Safe?
This is one of the most common questions asked by clients, the short answer is yes it is. A well trained and experienced hypnotherapist will always ensure that you are kept safe.
So just what happens during a typical regression session?
There are no hard and fast rules and each client has a different experience. However there is a simple formula that can be followed in the majority of cases.
The hypnotherapist will first explain what is going to happen, and reassure the client that they will be safe at all times, the therapist will then induce quite a deep trance state in the client.
A good hypnotherapist will then ask the client to imagine a safe place, and anchor that place in their mind, so that they can return their at anytime just by thinking about it, feeling safe and secure in that place, almost like a protective bubble.
The hypnotherapist will then take the client back though time in their mind, accessing memories from the past, looking for the first event that was relevant to the issue. Often, but not always when that memory is found the client will experience some emotion or ab reaction. Once the client has confirmed that this was where the problem first started it can be dealt with in a number of ways, exactly how it is dealt with depends on the particular memory.
Should the ab reaction be too emotional, the client will be taken back to their safe place, ensuring that they are feeling calm and relaxed once again. They will very often be able to look at the memory without the emotion from this place of calm and see the problem in a different light. This in itself can sometimes be enough to resolve the issue. A client will never be left in a state of heightened emotion, they will always be brought back to the present time in a calm and relaxed manner.
How will I feel afterwards?
Many clients awake from the trance state and feel a sense of relief that they have finally uncovered the cause of their problem. Many clients are surprised at just what a trivial issue caused the problem in the first place.
It may take a few days for the full effect of the therapy to take effect. Some clients may experience memories popping into their mind for a few days afterwards, in my view this is just the sub conscious mind finally dealing with the problem and putting it into perspective.
I hope that this goes some way to explaining what happens during regression therapy, it is very safe and is by no means the only way of dealing with issues that clients may have.
