Weight Loss and Sleeping Patterns
A recent study has highlighted a link between sleeping poorly and weight loss, a group of almost 500 obese adults underwent a clinical trial in the United States. the report in the International Journal of Obesity showed that lower stress levels could result in a greater weight loss too, the full story can be read by clicking on the link below:
In the clinical trial the 500 obese adults were asked to eat 500 calories a day less, take some exercise and join in with group sessions, sadly the BBC report does not make clear what happened to the people in the study, the report merely draws a conclusion that more sleep equals a better chance of loosing weight.
UK weight loss expert’s view
Dr Neil Stanley from the British Sleep Society said:
“The sleep community had been aware of this for a while, but was glad that obesity experts were taking notice.”
“We’ve always had the eat less move more mantra. But there is a growing body of evidence that we also need to sleep well”, he said.
“It’s also true that if you’re stressed, then you’re less likely to behave, you’ll sit at home feeling sorry for yourself, probably eating a chocolate bar.”
Another unnamed sleep expert is reported as saying we need to “eat less move more and sleep well”
Obesity and weight loss
In the report it was stated that almost a quarter of adults in the United Kingdom are classed as clinically obese, to be categorised as obese one has to have a BMI of over 30, if you are not sure what BMI is then please click on this link to a previous article which will explain it in more detail
Weight loss and stress
So is there a link between weight loss and stress? If you are stressed then it is highly likely that you will not be sleeping well, does it therefore follow that if you are suffering from a poor sleep pattern that it will affect your chances of loosing weight? As Dr Neil Stanley stated, if you are stressed you are more likely to feel sorry for yourself and eat food that is bad for you. Perhaps getting stressed is not good for dieting and weight loss programmes.
Weight loss, stress and hypnosis
One of the best ways to tackle stress is by using hypnotherapy, which by it’s very nature is relaxing and calming. Clients who are shown how to use self hypnosis often mange their stress levels very effectively.
And using hypnosis for loosing weight has been proved to be one of the easiest ways to loose weight and maintain that weight loss for good. All achieved without the need for diets, exercise, slimming clubs or cravings. For those clients who are classed as clinically obese there is the revolutionary hypnotic virtual gastric band, which is a therapy that is much safer and cheaper than the surgical procedure and just as effective.
