Stop Smoking – it’s easy to say and for some it’s easy to do. But what if you have tried in the past and found it an impossible task? Maybe you have tried to go cold turkey, or gone down the route of nicotine replacement patches, and still you go back to smoking again. Have you given up giving up or do you still want to quit smoking?
Quit the habit and stop smoking
That phrase quit smoking is quite profound.
Perhaps like many people you believe that you are addicted to smoking, that cigarettes have some kind of hold over you. Do you believe that nicotine and other drugs in tobacco are making you smoke, that it’s out of your hands. Well perhaps that is true to a small extent, or is it?
What if smoking was really more of a habit?
How could you tell the difference between addiction and a habit?
If for example you smoke on average every couple of hours or so during the day do you have get up every couple of hours during the night to smoke? Or when on a long flight do you have to make the pilot land so you can smoke? Probably not. So you can’t be addicted or you would go crazy for a cigarette. It’s just a habit.
Stop smoking without cravings
A lot of what you experience as cravings are just habit withdrawal symptoms. The more you think about doing something the more likely you are to want to do it. And your subconscious mind is great at reminding you of things it wants you to do, and usually you end up doing them. Your subconscious mind is very powerful and can create the physical symptoms of withdrawal very easily so that it can get you what it thinks you need. But why should your subconscious mind want you to smoke?
Smoking is a great habit to have
Yes it’s true, smoking tobacco is a great habit to have!
The benefits to smoking are quite compelling:
- When stressed you feel calmer after smoking a cigarette
- It’s a social habit – you get to make friends and talk to other smokers
- Smoking is a great excuse to take a work break
- It’s an image thing – some people feel grown up smoking?
- It’s associated with being cool – a throw back to early cinema films?
- Smoking is something to do with your hands
- And you can probably think or a few more…..
So there are many good reasons to smoke and your brain has learnt this over time. As humans we naturally look to automate our actions, and our brain does this for smoking because at some time in the past it has learnt that smoking is beneficial to you in some way. The more you do something the deeper the habit is ingrained and automated.
The big problem now is updating that information, once something has become a habit it’s really hard for you to change that consciously. The brain has learnt all sorts of reasons and triggers for you to smoke and they fire off automatically, mostly out of your awareness. So if all this is true how do you stop smoking?
Stop smoking with hypnosis
If you want to change a habit is easier to do at a subconscious level, after all that’s where all your memories, programmes, triggers and cues for you to smoke are stored.
Luckily using hypnosis you can directly access your subconscious mind and help it to understand that smoking, far from being a good thing to do is in fact very dangerous, and is slowly poisoning your body. For some it may eventually leading to a premature death! If it doesn’t kill you then certain medical conditions can be made worse, for instance if you have tinnitus smoking can make it spike.
Will I be able to stop smoking using hypnosis?
The easy answer is yes!
Yes you can break the habit and stop smoking using hypnotherapy.
There is only one caveat though, you have to want it, really want it. Don’t assume that your husband, wife or partner will quit cigarettes just because you want them to, they also must want to stop smoking. You can’t force someone to do something they don’t want to do.
So if you really to want to quit smoking you can.
How does hypnosis help me stop smoking?
When I help my clients to stop smoking I want to find out all about their smoking habits. How many cigarettes they smoke, when and where they smoke them? What are the benefits to them smoking? And yes, there are benefits as we have already seen! And I especially want to know what will life be like when you have successfully quit smoking?
Once all the information has been gathered, then hypnosis and what you are about to experience is fully explained, to put you at completely at ease and remove all doubts. When you are ready hypnosis is induced. You feel super relaxed, very calm and peaceful, and then I help your subconscious mind to change it’s beliefs about smoking. Simple eh?
No cravings, no withdrawal symptoms, just one 60 minute session.
